Physical Vapor Deposition (PVD for short) can be used as a final step in tool manufacturing – without loss of hardness, deformation or impact on the microstructure of the substrate material.

The PVD process produces very hard layers.

The layer thickness can be precisely controlled and is usually very thin with an average of 3 μm.

This results in the following benefits:

• No influence on microstructure with suitable material selection
• Combination with friction-reducing layers (DLC such as e.g. Carbon X) possible
• Variable layer structure (nanostructures, multilayers, monolayers)
• Chemical and mechanical stripping possible

Our coatings are widely used in the following application areas;

(Metal) machining, punching/forming of metal sheet, injection moulding/extrusion of plastics and components business.

You can then think about eliminating the following problems;

• Abrasive (abrasive, material degrading) wear.
• Adhesive wear (cold welding and/or galling).
• Too much friction between moving parts while lubrication is undesirable/ forbidden.
• Corrosion
• Poor unloading of (plastic) products from moulds
